“The honorable Monique Wells is celebrated for her mighty spirit of exceptional outreach and service in the arts and sciences. Dr. Wells is an active change agent involved with the guts of caring to uplift and empower others through meaningful experiences. She shares the global scope of learning more to embrace our cultural differences and diverse humanity.” Kabuya Pamela Bowens-Saffo, Artist/Founder-Director: THINKING CAP Collaborative Art Projects
Dr. Monique Y. Wells, a veterinarian, a toxicologist, and author has spent the last 29 years in Paris, France, empowering women and people of African descent. She is a fervent believer in the power of education to change lives. Dr. Wells has combined her passion for life sciences, literacy, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics), the arts, travel/study abroad, and women’s empowerment into Strategic Focus Areas under the umbrella of her non-profit organization, the Wells International Foundation (WIF). Throughout WIF’s existence, Dr. Wells has implemented innovative, and even life-changing, arts-focused programs and projects. COVID-19 PAGES: The Influence & Inspiration of Women is one such project. The PAGES celebrate the essential work of women around the world who are mitigating the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, even as women and girls are disproportionately negatively affected by it. Dr. Wells’ walking tours in Paris, ENTREE TO BLACK PARIS, bring to light the lives, associates, and work of black writers, performers, and artists who resided in Paris.
Dr. Wells’ passion for promoting the legacy of Beauford Delaney, an American modernist painter and friend to James Baldwin, led her to organize Beauford Delaney: Resonance of Form and Vibration of Color. The six-week, monographic exhibition of over 40 original paintings and works on paper loaned by several private collectors in the Paris area was hosted by Columbia Global Centers | Paris in February-March 2016.
